Every Sunday I’m going to give my top five songs/music videos released from the previous week, in no particular order. Songs posted on the blog earlier in the week won’t be in the list, but mentioned at the end.
1. Cee Lo Green – Only You (featuring Lauriana Mae)
This was a single released in early February and is supposed to be on Cee Lo’s new album Cee-Lo Green… Is Everybody’s Brother. It’s pretty catchy and I’ve always been a big fan of Cee Lo and everything he puts out. I’m hoping this isn’t the best of his forthcoming album, but for now it will do.
2. Joey Bada$$ – Wendy N Becky (featuring Chance the Rapper)
Over Thelonius Martin production, both rappers talk about girls they’ve experienced in the past. It’s really about how the girls in the past are simply, girls in the past, and that they aren’t anything too special when it comes to romantics.
3. Pac Div – Savages (featuring Big Sik and Edbone)
Though the music video features the version of the song without Big Sik and Edbone, the song is still a banger in it’s own right. It’s one of the few songs on GMB produced by Like, one third of The Div, and one of the better beats on the album.
4. Jared Evan – Pro Create (featuring Action Bronson)
Off of Evan’s collaborative album Boom Bap & Blues with producer Statik Selektah, Bronson has a verse about how he should leave his wife, but he’s already given her two kids and he wants times to be like they were in the past before the kids. Evan on the other hand uses music as a metaphor for sex and procreation.
5. Big K.R.I.T. - Shine On (featuring Bun B)
Just some good ol’ southern rap. This is off of Big K.R.I.T.’s next mixtape K.R.I.T. (King Remembered In Time)
Some songs that came out that were mentioned in previous posts that came out this week include the music video for “Turnip the Beet” by Asher Roth, “Constant Conversations (Remix)” by Passion Pit ft. Juicy J and “Nina” and “Debbie” by ANTHM & Blu. I wanted to include a track by Frank Ocean called “Eyes Like Sky”, but I couldn’t find a proper audio file for it. It is supposedly an unreleased track off of Ocean’s Channel Orange.
