After a crazy weekend setting up the show we hosted with Chester Watson, I went back to check out what music came and I can’t believe I missed this Ivan Ave track. His latest project was with Stones Throw producer Mndsgn and they’re back at it again with the track, “Forks.” (Low Jams EP needs to get to more ears, but that is a whole different discussion.)
“Forks” starts off with the funky bass line of Mndsgn setting a tone of nocturnal emotion for the Norway emcee to dabble in. Ivan Ave feels familiar in Mndsgn’s environment and quickly picks up where he left off with clever lines and sharp-cutting flow. His lyrics point towards love interest thoughts with clever bars like “Let’s go half on a cab / maybe my first born too” and others that have you rewinding to realize how nasty that line really was.
The video is perfect. It’s laid-back and features clips of Ivan around the city mixed in with snow and city lights. All done in complementary low-fi quality.
Check out the video below. It will be on a untitled project that Ivan Ave has coming soon (hopefully).
