In an age of artistic over saturation, musicianship is often overlooked. That being said, rarely do I stumble upon something that reminds me of the transcendent qualities of sound. Jordan Rakei has managed to craft a truly unique work that resonates on a plethora of frequencies. The album titled Cloak is a fine example of experimentation coupled with a cohesive palette of content. The project incorporates jazz and soul elements with a myriad of melodies and rhythmic pieces. Jordan’s vocal range and performance throughout pairs exceedingly well with the instrumentation. As a debut release, I’d say that this is a step in the right direction for Rakei.
