Ehiorobo & Icarus Moth

On the heels of the release for their new collaborative EP titled Mutamelior, alternative r&b singer-songwriter/musician Ehiorobo and pop-electronic musician/composer and producer Icarus Moth are embarking on a 6-show tour across cities in northeast USA.

Their four-track EP includes an exploration of genres and styles mainly referencing r&b and hip-hop, strains of EDM such as house music and UK-Garage, as well as pop-contemporary. With the project being patiently created at Icarus Moth’s home studio through the course of 3-4 years betwixt other releases and plans, the EP title and phrase “Mutamelior” is Latin hodge-podge meaning “to change is for the better”, and was intentionally coined in describing the artists’ shared sentiment in how their respective musical journeys and broader lives have evolved since the time in which they first came in contact. Ehiorobo recalls listening back to the tracklist of songs found on the project and claims that they somehow happen to be organized on a scale from seemingly lacking hope to incredibly hopeful – hence, the run of performances around the release being titled ‘The Hope Gradient Tour’.

The two musicians (Ehiorobo and Icarus Moth) hail from their artist project’s beginnings in the mid-2010’s era of Soundcloud and have a history of collaboration both via self-release and label releases namely through Canadian electronic music label Monstercat. Having brushed paths with various contemporaries including both sharing a tour caravan with MOTHICA, as well as different collaborations with artists like Flamingosis and members of Night Owl Collective – Ehiorobo & Icarus Moth initially met in 2016 at an internet Soundcloud community jam-session organized by the Night Owl team in Austin, TX at SXSW.

Approximately 8 years later and after multiple individual project releases & tours, dozens of millions of streams and even being roommates for some time in Brooklyn NY, the two are primed to share their newest project and performances across Boston, DC, NYC, Philadelphia, and more.

Ehiorobo

Ehiorobo (Ehi Igiehon) is an alternative R&B singer-songwriter, musician and producer from NYC by way of New Jersey, releasing music under his Igbo-Nigerian born-name – commonly mistaken as a moniker nodding towards his electronic sensibilities. Often acknowledged for his unconventional vocal style blending expressive crooning with poetic asides, as well as his eclectic range of stylistic output (alt. r&b, indie-pop, indie-rock, electronic, hip hop, and more), he’s become well-known for being a chameleon within the space of indie music wielding a discography that has amassed upwards of 40,000,000 streams across platforms.

With a plethora of touring experiences under his belt, Ehiorobo has been brought along various North American tours as a supporting act for electronic & indie-pop artists such as Mothica, Robotaki, Flamingosis, and Blockhead, often finding himself in the position to present his alternative r&b styles and electronic music to rooms that are poised to dance. Stepping into the internet’s independent electronic music scene via Soundcloud mid-way through the 2010’s with collaborations alongside artists from different spaces including Flamingosis, Bickle, Omniboi, MEMBA, SMLE, Deffie, Icarus Moth, Seiho, Mark Redito, Maxo and many more, Ehiorobo has been consistently releasing music since first putting forth an intimate collection of songs on his debut LP, Limeade (2016 via DESKPOP).

After taking on auxiliary creative projects – most recently including original music composition and background vocal work for Lupita Nyong’o and KQED Snap Judgements’ ‘Mind Your Own’ podcast, Ehiorobo’s newest focused and canonical artistic output involves a three-track EP, ‘Mutamelior’ alongside Brooklyn-based producer Icarus Moth to be released during the autumn of 2024.

Icarus Moth

As a producer, composer, and pianist, Icarus Moth has crafted a diverse array of sounds, amassing over 10 million streams on Spotify alone. His unorthodox approach to music and disregard for genre has led him to collaborate with a variety of artists across independent music scenes, including MOTHICA, Ehiorobo, A R I Z O N A, MEMBA, and Crystal Fighters.

Beyond creative collaborations, Icarus Moth’s exploration of sonic textures has earned commercial recognition, including three Red Dot Awards for Commercial Music & Sound Branding in 2023. Icarus Moth’s ears have been lent to the likes of Mercedes Benz, MasterCard, ShareNow, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and Deloitte among others.

In the eclectic realm of Icarus Moth, listeners are enveloped in a rich tapestry of instruments and influences, described by COMPLEX Magazine, Dancing Astronaut, and VICE as “sensuous,” “upbeat,” “tribal-influenced,” and “full-bodied.”
