"I consider the genre of this album to be rape revenge."
On Some Kind of Animal, Fielded transforms personal trauma, rage, sexuality, grief, and liberation into a sprawling cinematic work that unfolds like a film. Drawing inspiration from the "rape revenge" subgenre, particularly films like Ms .45 and Promising Young Woman, the album examines the realities of misogyny, abuse, power, desire, and survival through the lens of someone reclaiming agency after years of self-erasure.

On Some Kind of Animal, Fielded transforms personal trauma, rage, sexuality, grief, and liberation into a sprawling cinematic work that unfolds like a film. The album was written in the aftermath of a nearly four-year relationship that left Fielded questioning her identity and relationship to validation. Moving through moments of confrontation, reflection, intimacy, and release, Some Kind of Animal explores the expectations placed on women, femmes, and queer people, and the lasting effects those expectations can have on the way people move through the world. Throughout the album, Fielded returns to themes of wounded masculinity, toxic gender roles, religion, sex work, and the shifting balance between vulnerability and control.
Produced largely by Fielded herself, the album blends experimental pop, industrial, alternative R&B, art rock, gospel, and noise. The production shifts alongside the emotional direction of each song, moving between sparse arrangements and overwhelming walls of sound. Influences from Patti Smith, Tori Amos, Prince, Aretha Franklin, Death Grips, and film soundtracks appear throughout, while the album remains unmistakably Fielded.
Some Kind of Animal follows the slow rebuilding of identity after years of self-erasure. It is an album that soundtracks the naming of destructive patterns, confronting them honestly, and finding a way forward without pretending the healing process is simple.
