“I knew I had to change to truly live and breathe as myself.”
OBSESSIONS is the result of lilith spending the last two and a half years completely reinventing their approach to music. Following their 2025 album May Every Shape Hold, OBSESSIONS grew out of a period of grief, change, and dissatisfaction with how they saw themselves, and eventually became a way to figure out what making music authentically meant to them again.

Sonically, OBSESSIONS moves through experimental electronic music, breakcore, glitch-pop, jazz, ambient music, distorted pop, R&B, and hip-hop, with lilith describing the overall sound as “electronic maximalist anime pop music.” To explore that range, lilith enlists a wide group of collaborators, including Dottovu, Pink Siifu, DORIS, giAnna, X-CHAN, and MIO-ERA, bringing different vocal styles and approaches into the album's constantly shifting sound. There is also narration by Lenval Brown, notably known for narrating Disco Elysium, riddled throughout the album.
The album developed through an intentionally open-ended process to help rediscover themselves as a person and a musician. “If I kept allowing myself to be in this shell of mine, I would never truly know what it would be like to live and breathe as myself fully,” lilith says of the process.
The two-and-a-half-year process happened across different laptops, recording sessions, friends' homes, tape recordings, and in-person and digital collaborations. The album was built around recurring collaborators Trey Tarzia, Matthew Drake, Yishayahu Levin, Entifan, and Abigail Zachko, who helped shape the compositions through drums, keys, bass, guitar, and vocals. lilith describes Matthew Drake as “Thundercat to my Flying Lotus,” crediting his playing, composition, and encouragement with helping their ideas become something more. They stopped worrying about impressing anyone or trying to push their sound in a particular direction, instead following whatever ideas felt natural. lilith describes the record as “all the things I like.”
Across its ten tracks, OBSESSIONS moves through unease, confrontation, intimacy, loneliness, and grief, eventually arriving at the quiet goodbye of “heaven.” The album is a bookmark of the time when lilith gave themselves room to change and follow the music wherever it went.
